Play Draughts Online

Play a free game of English draughts against the computer. You control the red pieces and always move first. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard difficulty and try to capture every computer piece or leave your opponent with no legal move.

How to Play Draughts

• Select one of your red pieces and then select a highlighted square to move.
• Ordinary pieces move diagonally forwards by one square.
• Capture an opponent by jumping diagonally over it into the empty square immediately beyond it.
• Captures are compulsory. If a capture is available, you must take it.
• If the same piece can make another capture after jumping, you must continue the multiple-capture sequence.
• Ordinary pieces can only move and capture forwards.
• Reach the opposite end of the board to become a King.
• Kings can move and capture diagonally both forwards and backwards.
• If a piece reaches the King row while capturing, that turn ends. The newly crowned King can move as a King from its next turn.

How to Win

Win by capturing all of the computer's pieces or by leaving the computer with no legal moves. The computer wins under the same conditions.

Difficulty

Easy makes simple random legal choices and is a good place to learn the game.

Medium evaluates the board before choosing a move and provides a more competitive casual opponent.

Hard looks several moves ahead before deciding what to play. It is designed for players looking for a tougher game.
