Higher or Lower is a free online number guessing game where every decision comes down to one simple question: will the next number be higher or lower? The current number is shown on the card and the next number can be anywhere from 1 to 100. Make your choice, reveal the next number and see whether your prediction was correct.

The rules are simple enough to learn immediately, but building a long winning streak is much harder. A correct prediction increases your streak and adds points to your score. A wrong prediction costs one of your lives and sends your current streak back to zero. Your challenge is to reach 20 correct guesses in a row before you run out of lives.

How Does Higher or Lower Work?

Each turn begins with a number between 1 and 100. Press Higher if you think the next number will be larger, or press Lower if you think it will be smaller. The next number is then revealed and becomes the starting number for your following guess. Equal numbers are excluded, so there is always a definite higher or lower result.

You can play using the buttons on a phone, tablet or computer. On a keyboard, you can also use the Up Arrow for Higher and the Down Arrow for Lower. There is no download required, so you can start a new game directly in your browser.

Streaks, Scores and Extra Lives

You begin each game with three lives. Every correct answer extends your streak, while an incorrect answer removes one life and resets the streak. Reach five consecutive correct guesses and you earn an extra life if you are below the maximum of five. The same reward is available again at streaks of 10, 15 and 20.

Your score also grows faster as your streak gets longer. The first correct guess is worth 100 points, the second is worth 200, the third is worth 300 and so on. Keeping a streak alive therefore produces a much larger score than repeatedly starting again from zero.

The BEST stat records your highest streak on this browser, so you can leave the game and return later to try to beat it. Browser storage is used for this local best result; clearing your browser or site data can reset it.

The main goal of the game is to achieve a streak of 20 correct Higher or Lower predictions. You can also challenge yourself to beat your previous best streak, improve your score or see how accurately you can predict the next number.
