How to Play Sliding Picture Puzzle

Sliding Picture Puzzle is a classic tile puzzle where a picture is divided into movable pieces. One position on the board is left empty, allowing nearby pieces to slide around the puzzle.

Your goal is to rearrange all of the pieces until the original picture has been restored.

Choose Your Picture

Choose the Mouse, Raccoon or Teddy picture before starting the game. Each picture can be played at any of the three available difficulty levels.

Choose a Puzzle Size

  • 3 × 3 — 8 picture pieces and one empty space.
  • 4 × 4 — 15 picture pieces and one empty space.
  • 5 × 5 — 24 picture pieces and one empty space.

Larger puzzles contain more pieces and usually require many more moves to solve.

Moving the Pieces

Tap a picture piece directly above, below, left or right of the empty space. That piece will slide into the empty position.

Pieces cannot move diagonally and you cannot move a piece unless it is directly beside the empty space.

How to Win

Continue moving pieces until every section of the picture is back in its correct position.

When the complete picture has been restored, the game will record your number of moves and completion time.

Puzzle Strategy

Try solving the puzzle one row at a time. Getting the top row into the correct order first can make the remaining pieces easier to organise.

On larger puzzles, avoid moving a correctly positioned piece unless doing so helps another piece reach its destination. Planning several moves ahead can save a lot of unnecessary sliding.
